Well, I haven't been studying at all.
Though I think my main issue currently is that the Oekaki applet does not run fast enough for me to draw smooth lines on this computer. ):

"Imagine that portrait. Stare at it with me. This portrait is troubling, isn't it? Yet at the same time, it is gloriously symbolic and full of hope. [It is Moses in the clutches of a great eagle. The eagle's eyes glow deep red, and moses has a giant sword. Moses' pecs are bursting with raw courage and strength.]"
...That is all. |

The here art book's telling me that I should get away from the idea of seeing things as items, and rather see them more as shapes and colours and what-not. It says we shouldn't say, "Here is an apple", "Now here is a boat", or, "this is a boot with 12 hooks and eyelets, and two broken laces."
But... what if we drew things SOLELY based on their identities? "This is one apple. It is red, has five spots, and one stem coming out of the top." Would I draw a perfectly symmetrical apple, paste it with lavish strokes of all the richest reds, uniformly line five spots in the centre, and draw a lineart stem right at the center-top? Anyway, I have taken an interest to the though. Also, I cannot draw boots at all. |
WIP of a painting.
